Spring Cleaning Hacks

I'm not exactly looking forward to spring cleaning. Who is?

I typically enlist the help of my grandma for things related to cleaning. I have made her tell me all her ways and I wrote them down so that I will always know what she would do when it comes to cleaning. She is literally the cleanest person I know, you could eat off her floor. One of her super powers is that she can get any stain out of every piece of clothing no matter how many times I've washed it and have maybe dried it along the way. She would kill me if I told her I dried the stain in so we just don't usually tell her.

I probably should do a deep cleaning more often than I do but I don't always have time to clean like this. I'm lucky if I clean like this once a year.  I'm more excited for it to be spring than the spring cleaning but if I think of them as one in the same then maybe it'll be more fun.

Things you need:

  • Baking Soda
  • White Vinegar
  • Bucket
  • Dish Soap
  • Rags
  • Washing Machine- To clean the washing machine pour hot water into the detergent tray. Then add  2 cups of white vinegar into the washing machine and run cycle on cold. You may also do this any time the washer starts to smell. If you have a front loading washer, leave the door to the machine open until it is dry. This will help prevent it from smelling also.
  • Dryer- She suggests to wash the lint tray every 6 months. Vacuum out the outside vent to the dryer to get the lint out. Then use a damp cloth with detergent to lightly wash the inside of the dryer.
  • Garbage Disposal- Pour baking soda into the disposal and let sit for a few minutes. Then pour a cup vinegar down the drain and let sit and foam for 1 hour. Then rinse with cold water.
  • Drains- Sprinkle baking soda into drains and let sit for a few minutes. You can do this in showers, bathtubs, and bathroom sinks. Then pour a cup of vinegar until foaming. Let sit for 1 hour and then rinse with cold water.
  • Window Screens- Wash screens with warm soapy water every spring before placing in windows. If screens in windows already, take out and wash before opening windows for spring.
  • Dish Washer- Place 2 cups of vinegar in empty dishwasher and run normally with no detergent. Then run empty dishwasher with detergent like you normally would.
